Week 3 General Update

Welcome to our third update post! Taj here, let's have a rundown on what we've been up to this week! I've been working this week on logo concepts for the game as at this point it's looking fairly drab around here and we need some colour in here. I've been putting together a handful of concepts that as a team we will discuss and find which to proceed with. I've been focusing on bright primary colours and fluid shapes to convey the speed and movement system our game is built around. I've also started some basic designs for our UI rework to better fit within the theme of the game, and while this is still in it's early stages, they are coming along fairly well! The next week looks like more development on these fronts so I'll check in with updates!

Hey everyone! So this week I mainly worked on creating a tutorial level for the game. I originally created what I thought was a good tutorial to introduce the game to the players. The only problem was that no one was able to complete it!!! I guess that means it wasn't a good tutorial actually...so I've created a more player friendly one that people can actually finish (hopefully). This tutorial level is set exclusively in the science labs setting of the game, and is the setting where the player will interact with the portal at the end that sets the game in motion. We have a game test in a bit over a week testing this tutorial, so hopefully the players will complete it and get a better introduction to the game. This week I'll just keep adding stuff to the tutorial level, and implement some new enemies. - Ronan

Kelly here! I’ve mostly been working on designing the layout for the levels of our game, which is a lot more complicated than I initially anticipated it to be. Not only do I need to ensure each level is completable, but I need to make sure they are cohesive for the player and utilise the mechanics we have in a way that really highlights the unique aspects of Mobility that make it stand out from other speed running games. And I also have to make it fun to play! So far, I’ve only got little bits and pieces that I think would work well. I’m hoping I’ll be able to connect those bits and pieces together to form at least one fully fleshed out level in the next week.

Melissa here, this week I worked on more models to decorate the backgrounds of the levels. I made a mix of common science lab equipment ,mainly the type found in biology and chemistry labs, as well as some office space assets.  I have also started to make the buildings needed for the construction site based level. I’ve made a guide of that level with placeholder cubes to help plan it out and I’m starting to replace them with proper models and fixing some sizing issues I’ve had, to see how it looks and works together. Though this level is still in the planning stages so far. Other than that I have just been looking into fonts to be used for the UI.

G’day! Test lead here. Last week, I designed some logos for Ugly Mirror Entertainment, and I hope I can show the team some pics of the logos in week 4. The next thing I need to do is have some questionnaires to prepare for the play test in week 5, and I will also let some of my friends play the game and ask them to give some feedback. In the end, I will continue working on my game assets. That’s it for now for week 3. Thanks!

Check in here next week for a deeper dive into how we've been working on a particular project...
