Week 5 General Update

Welcome back everyone! Here's our biweekly update on what we've all been working on and where development is at! Taj here and this week I've been working on creating polished UI elements that we can use to replace the existing HUD with our new designs. I've created speed meters and boost bars as well as a number system for both the players speed and time but I've been having some issues with transparency on these which has held us up from implementing them into the game. Hopefully over this next week I should be able to finish them up and have them ready for use!

Hey ya'll, Kelly here! It took a lot longer than I would have liked, but I have finally finished a mock up for a level. Right now, it's just a drawing of the layout that I've marked and colour coded with the game mechanics I think should be featured in the level. It will then be given to Ronan to put together and refine to a playable and completable standard. So now, the next thing for me is to continue working on more level designs. Fingers crossed those won't take as long as this one did!

Hey everyone, so the play-test is finally finished!!! It went pretty well, with the people who played it seeming to enjoy it. So now I can move on to reworking the enemy ai. Looking back on the previous code was... interesting. There were some issues with it that I've now fixed, and it's all about tweaking it to make it feel just right. The goal of the enemies in Mobility is to shoot at the player, but instead of killing the player they will slow them down for a certain amount of time. So something much worse for the player!! Hopefully by the next blog post I'll have the enemy ai fully finished and implemented!! - Ronan

Melissa again, this week I made a couple more models to fill the science lab parts of the levels. These included the kits and tools used commonly in biology labs such as scalpels, trays and dissection tables. I also made the ground portal model and the pieces of the portal key to be found at the end of each level and assembled to complete the game.

Hey everyone, Test lead here. Week 5 was pretty fun because we had a game test. Yes, it means I finally had something significant to do! In the week 5 game test, we mainly focus on the players' reactions to the new tutorial and how fast a player can adapt to the game. The new tutorial level really helped players get into the game during the game. However, there is still something that we could do better on the new tutorial level. In the game test, I could see more people enjoying the game than in the last game test. People were very excited about trying to break the fastest record and trying to learn the game. Overall, I would say the game test was a success!

Tune in next week for a new deep dive into our development process on a particular tast!
